There are several low cost carriers operating across India skies. This carrier has merged after the Indian government introduced economic reforms and the concept of open skies came into effect. Here's a look into the well-known low-cost carriers in India:
* Air Deccan - This low-cost carrier is India's first low-cost carrier and by far a very successful low-cost carrier. It is a subsidiary of Deccan Aviation and has a secondary hub at the Chennai international Airport. This Bangalore based is currently operating about 300 flights to 59 destinations within the country. After it's entry into the low-cost carrier segment a number of other also sprung up.
* Air-India express - This carrier is Air-India answer to the low cost carrier segment. This carrier was established in the year 2004 and began operation in April 2005, from Thiruvananthapuram. It operates flights to gulf countries at prices that are 25% lower than the fares offered by Air-India and works on a zero-commission basis.
* IndigoAirlines - This low-cost carrier is based in Delhi and is a subsidiary of InterGlobe Enterprises (leading Delhi-based travel conglomerate). It has ambitious plans in catering to the low-cost carrier segment and this was reflected in the 2005 Paris Air Show in which this placed an order for about 100 Airbus A320 family aircraft. This is the largest order so far placed by a domestic carrier. It aims to expand its current fleet to about 40 A320s by the year 2010 and offer services to about 30 cities within India.
* KingFisher Airlines - This is a Bangalore based that operates flights at the most reasonable charges without compromising on with quality service to travelers. It is owned by United Beverages Group and is headed by Vijay Mallya. One of the most important elements in their flight services is the Flight Entertainment System, which is a first offered by an Indian carrier. Though currently, it is offering services only to Indian cities, it ha plans to offer service to the United States.
* Paramount Airways - This is promoted by the Madurai-based Paramount Group, which is a leading Indian textile manufacturer.

It introduced a Rs. 99 during the first 99 days of flight operations with the aim of competing with AC coach fares of the Indian Railways.
